In 2002, the Virgin Islands received HRSA SPG funds to collect data that will inform the development of realistic and broadly supported policy options designed to reduce the level of uninsured citizens in the Virgin Islands. The project activities were developed with the goal of determining health insurance access and coverage disparities among
the various sub-populations that exist in the Virgin Islands and expanding knowledge about the effectiveness of the Medical Assistance Program in providing health insurance access to the poor and near poor.
In 2004, the Virgin Islands received a HRSA pilot project planning grant to develop a purchasing collaborative, increase Medicaid enrollment, and continue to analyze the costs of uncompensated care.
