"Pay or Play" Law passes in Maryland
Maryland's General Assembly recently passed a law (S.B. 790/H.B. 1284) requiring private-sector, for profit employers with 10,000 or more employees in the state to spend at least 8 percent of their payroll (or 6 percent in the case of a nonprofit employer) on health care.

Implications of the New Federal Bankruptcy Law on Health Consumers
Earlier this year, a study in Health Affairs [1] presented alarming new data regarding personal bankruptcy in the United States: 55 percent of filers in 2001 cited a medical cause for bankruptcy. In addition, study authors found that medical bankruptcies increased 23-fold in the past two decades.

Congress Passes Federal Budget Resolution with $10 Billion in Cuts to Medicaid
